The latest at Oakdale Baptist Church
We last updated you on our response to the Coronavirus on April 1. At that time, we made the decision to follow the recommendations established by President Trump and Governor Stitt which resulted in OBC canceling all services and activities and continuing online only ministry for an additional 30 days (which was to end April 30).
On Wednesday, new guidelines were established for the purpose of beginning to reopen the economy over the next 6 weeks. Part of the Oklahoma announcement included direction for churches that would allow reopening after May 1 along with some specific recommendations/requirements. Some churches in the metro area are planning to reopen in the next few weeks, while others are planning to take a more cautious approach.
Over the past few days, a leadership group made up of staff, medical personnel, and lay leaders has continued to work together to make a decision about how we will proceed over the next month. While everyone is very anxious to be able to meet together physically again, the decision has been made to exercise caution rather than rushing to reopen.
Our plan is to continue doing our current online services and activities through the end of May, re-evaluating on a weekly basis as new information becomes available and conditions change. A soon as our leadership team feels confident in the safety of reopening, we will do so. During this time, we will be working to establish guidelines which will encourage a safe and healthy environment when we do reopen.
In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue participating in the online content that our staff is producing each week including, daily devotions, zoom meetings and worship services. Our plan is to continue these ministries even after we return to our physical campus.
They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I have a feeling that when we are finally able to meet together physically, it will be one of the biggest celebrations in our church’s history! Let’s remain faithful until then.
