OBC Children’s Intern Candidates,

At Oakdale we believe that children are our most prized possession and our most profound responsibility. That’s why, over the past 99 years, we have worked very hard to lay a solid foundation for Children’s Ministry at OBC. We are blessed with a Children’s Pastor and volunteer leaders that want to share God’s love with our kids. Now we look forward to taking the next step in our journey by adding a Children’s Intern leader for our growing Children’s Ministry.

This is an exciting time of the year! I know, right about now you are saying, “what are you talking about? It’s cold and grey outside; what is there to be excited about?” Are you ready? Here it is! Spring is just around the corner!
As a baseball coach for many years, this time of the year has always been an exciting time for me, because it means baseball is back and that means all kinds of new opportunities. With a new year, there are lots of chances for practice and working out. There are times to play when it’s cold and when it’s warm. There will be sunny days and grey, rainy days. But all of these are opportunities. Some might see these as obligations, but an obligation says, “I have to go to practice.” An opportunity says, “I get to go to practice.”
Opportunities give us a chance to get better, to improve our skills, to grow as a player. So, it is with the Christian life. When Christ told us that He came to bring us life and life more abundant, He was not telling us that life was an obligation. Instead, He was telling us we are going to have opportunities. You see, and abundant life is a life lived looking for opportunities. Life is going to be what you make it. You can decide that most of your life is full of obligations or you can see life as an opportunity. When an opportunity is presented, you have a chance to make the most of it. But if it’s an obligation, we tend to do what is only required.
In the Christian life, we have a chance to make the most of our lives for Christ. Honestly, He deserves it. He deserves for me to give my best, to work hard and to stand for Him. He deserves for me to season my speech with grace and to love the unlovable. He deserves for me not to grumble or mumble, but instead to encourage and lift up. He deserves it.
So, the next time you think, I have to go to church. Or, I have to try to love that person. Remember, the Christian life is not an obligation, it is an opportunity, and He deserves my best shot!
